A DOT Physical is a federally required medical exam mandated by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for commercial drivers. Its purpose is to ensure that drivers are physically, mentally, and medically qualified to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle. The exam evaluates overall health and identifies any medical conditions that could impact safe driving. DOT Physicals must be performed by a DOT-certified medical examiner and are required for most CDL holders as well as certain non-CDL commercial drivers under federal regulations.

What to Expect
The exam includes a medical history review, vision and hearing tests, blood pressure and vital signs, urinalysis, and a full physical evaluation. Bring a valid photo ID, any corrective lenses or hearing aids, a list of current medications, and relevant medical records.
In most cases, your DOT Medical Card is issued the same day and is valid for up to 24 months, depending on your medical status.
